Coroner IDs Pedestrian Killed by Metra Train as Crystal Lake Man, 25

The 25-year-old was struck and killed by the train Thursday morning in Crystal Lake.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL - A man struck and killed by a Metra train in Crystal Lake Thursday morning has been identified as Grant D. Jacobson, 25, of Crystal Lake, authorities said.

Witnesses said they saw Jacobson walking into the pathway of an eastbound Metra train as it pulled into the downtown Crystal Lake station at about 10:46 a.m., Anne Majewski, McHenry County Coroner, said in a news release.

An autopsy will be conducted Friday afternoon. Jacobson’s death remains under investigation by the McHenry County Coroner’s Office and the Crystal Lake Police Department.

The Crystal Lake accident was the second fatality on the Union Pacific Northwest line on Thursday. The first happened in Chicago when a train struck a car near Northwest Highway and Nagle Avenue at around 7:10 a.m., according to the Chicago Tribune.

Both accidents lead to extensive delays for NW line commuters on Thursday.
