Ex-Teacher Sentenced For Sexually Abusing 12 Students

KANE COUNTY, IL — A former District 300 elementary school substitute teacher will spend the rest of his life behind bars for sexually abusing 12 students between August 2015 and June 2017.
Carlos A. Bedoya, 66, pleaded guilty to 12 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse as part of.a plea deal, prosecutors said. The charges were filed in connection with several cases of sex abuse that occurred while he was working as a substitute coach at Golfview Elementary School in Carpentersville.
According to the Kane County State's Attorney's Office, the Golfview Elementary students he targeted were in kindergarten through third grade and Bedoya taught all of the students he abused.

Bedoya also worked as a youth soccer coach for the Boys and Girls Club of Dundee Township.
The 66-year sentence will be served consecutively to a 112-year prison sentence handed down to Bedoya in 2019 for sexually abusing one child.

"His guilty pleas in the remaining cases spares a dozen child sexual abuse survivors from the trauma and emotion of testifying in front of a jury, and it provides additional assurance that this predator will not take another breath as a free man," said Kane County Assistant State’s Attorney Tyler Cox in a statement. "My thanks to the children and their families for their support and their willingness to tell their story to prevent other children from being victimized by Mr. Bedoya."
