Unattended Candle Causes Garage Fire in Algonquin: Authorities

The fire caused between $5,000 and $10,000 in damage.

A garage was damaged in a blaze at an Algonquin home Sunday afternoon.

Firefighters responded to the fire in the 1100 block of Millcreek Lane at 4:09 p.m. where they found smoke and flames coming from the garage, according to an Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District press release. All occupants were able to safely get out of the home and the fire was quickly extinguished.

Fire investigators determined the fire was accidental in nature and caused by an unattended candle. Damage estimate were between $5,000 and $10,000.

No civilians or firefighters were injured. There were three cats in the home that were also uninjured.
