Body Pulled from Cal-Sag Channel Identified as New Lenox Man

Body pulled from Cal-Sag Channel in Alsip is identified as a 47-year-old New Lenox man, medical examiner says.

ALSIP, IL -- A body recovered from the waters of the Cal-Sag Channel earlier this week has been identified as 47-year-old Theodore Labuda of New Lenox, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. The cause and manner of death is still pending, but Alsip police say there was evidence that Labuda intentionally jumped into the channel.

The Alsip Police and Alsip Fire Departments were dispatched to the Cicero Avenue and 131st Street Bridge around 12:39 p.m. May 31. Witnesses told police they saw a man jumping off the bridge and had not resurfaced. Alsip fire crews, assisted by other agencies, conducted an underwater search.

Alsip police said in a news release that a preliminary investigation indicated the New Lenox man had jumped into the water to commit suicide. Witnesses reported seeing weights tied around his body.
