Arlington Heights $3.2M Water Meter Replacement Program Set To Start

The mandatory exchange program has a tentative completion date of Dec. 15, 2025, according to the Village.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — With a goal of replacing all aging water meters by the end of 2025, the Village's mandatory water replacement program is set to begin on March 1.

When water meters age, the wear and tear can cause them to read inaccurately, or fail altogether, according to the Village. Officials say the water meters "play a crucial role in the operation, maintenance, and support of the Village's water sewer system."

Village staff are working with contractor Professional Meters, Inc. on the initiative. PMI was awarded a $3,200,000 contract for the work through the Capital Improvements Plan. Seven zones have been identified to find all meters that need to be replaced.

Officials said the new smart meters will benefit residents by providing more accurate information about their water usage. In addition, an online customer portal will allow residents and business owners to access daily water usage information when the project is complete.

"When the portal indicates water usage while no one is at home, the resident will know that some water is being wasted, whether by a toilet left running, a garden hose being left on, or some other issue," the Village said on its website. "Knowing about this waste right away allows the resident to correct the issue and avoid being blindsided by a hefty water bill."
