Arlington Heights Boy Scouts Honor Family-Owned Heller Lumber

Arlington Heights, IL – August 3, 2020 – The Pathway to Adventure Council, Boy Scouts of America, is pleased to honor family-owned Arlington Heights business, Heller Lumber, at its Build Community – Invest in Character event on August 12, 2020. The breakfast event will be held virtually, with select community members attending in person, beginning at 7:00 am. The virtual event's agenda includes speeches from the Heller family and Arlington Heights Mayor, Tom Hayes.

Heller Lumber, an important Arlington Heights business, was founded by the Heller family nearly 100 years ago. Mr. Bill Heller was involved in Scouting at a young age, and when he became a father, he encouraged his sons to participate, too. Around the time Mr. Heller's son, Bill, earned his Eagle Rank, the family began donating lumber to any Eagle Scout candidate who needed a lumber donation. Though Bob and Bill are no longer with us, Bill's daughter, Jane (Heller) Garb, and wife, Winifred "Wink" Heller, have kept the family tradition of giving strong and continue to support local Scouts with lumber donations.

"Many Scouts who received donations from the Heller family have felt a deeper tie to their community because they know a local business supports their efforts,'' said Emily Constantinou, district executive, Pathway to Adventure Council. "The Heller Lumber family is an inspiration to us all by creating a ripple effect of community and empowering youth to make a real impact," Constantinou added.
