Arlington Heights Boys Escape Storm Sewer Unhurt
Fire departments from surrounding communities were part of Friday's effort to save the 3 boys before their "childhood prank" turned tragic.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Emergency crews from the village and surrounding communities were part of the effort to rescue three Arlington Heights boys who climbed into a storm sewer Friday, stopping what a fire department official called a "childhood prank" before it possibly turned tragic, the Arlington Heights Post reports. According to the Arlington Heights Fire Department, the boys — all elementary school-aged — entered the storm sewer Friday afternoon in the 2700 block of North Dryden Place in the Northgate subdivision, the report added.
Residents and emergency crews eventually found the boys after they traveled underground via the pipe, popping up through a sewer gate about three blocks away at Windsor and Burr Oak drives, the report stated. The experience proved to be a muddy one for the boys, but no injuries were reported, the report added. (Get Patch real-time email alerts for the latest Arlington Heights news. Along with the village residents who turned out to see how the boys fared, rescue workers from Des Plaines, Schaumburg and Rolling Meadows responded to the 911 call that sent events in motion Friday, according to the Post.
