Arlington Heights Firefighters Responded To 11K Calls In 2022: Report
The number marks the most calls in a 10-year span, according to the 2022 annual report.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Last year was busy for the Arlington Heights Fire Department, the busiest in at least 10 years, according to the department's annual report. In 2022, firefighters conducted 2,213 fire calls and 8,895 requests for emergency medical service, for a total of 11,108 calls.
According to a chart in the report, that number follows a two-year upward trend since incident calls dipped below 10,000 (9,689) at the height of the pandemic in 2020.
"I am proud to represent such a focused and determined group of firefighters who, together, form an organization dedicated to compassionate and caring service to our great community," Arlington Heights Fire Chief Lance Harris said in a May letter to Village Manager Randy Recklaus, included in the report.

AHFD received an ISO Class 1 rating, the highest public protection rating, according to the report. The ratings are designed to score a fire department's ability to protect their community. AHFD is one of only 29 in Illinois to receive this rating, and one of just 400 nationwide of approximately 40,000 fire departments.

- 45 percent — fire alarm/box alarm
- 24 percent — single engine response
- 12 percent — carbon monoxide/inside odor
- 11 percent — structure fire
- 4 percent — mutual aid request
- 3 percent — rescue
- 1 percent — other fire
In addition, 95 percent of emergency medical services responses were ambulance, with 5 percent being vehicle accident.
In terms of months, the busiest in 2022 was December, with 1,095 incidents. August was next with 1,010. The least amount of incidents occurred in February, with 739.
Arlington Heights Fire Station No. 2, located at 1150 N. Arlington Heights Road, responded to the most incidents in 2022, followed by No. 3, 1 and 4, respectively.
