Arlington Heights Police Move To Temporary HQ This Week

The public will be able to conduct business at the makeshift facility on West Shure Drive beginning at 8 a.m. Monday.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The Arlington Heights Police Department will move in to its temporary headquarters this week while the department waits for its new station to be built at the location of the current building, according to the village. The public will be able to conduct police business at the temporary location at 1500 W. Shure Drive after 8 a.m. Monday, May 15, a village release stated last week.

The department will occupy about 15,000 square feet at the West Shure Drive facility, taking up spots on the first and third floors. The front desk also will be open to the public 24 hours daily, but the temporary location does not have jail facilities. Arlington Heights officers are expected to take prisoners to jails at surrounding departments, such as Buffalo Grove and Rolling Meadows.

Some residents have expressd concern at the temporary facility's location in such a northern section os new spot.y thibf town and away from the heart of the village. Officials have said patrols and officer response will not be affected by the change thanks to staggered deployment schedules and different start and end times that will keep police coverage constant throughout Arlington Heights. Village Hall and two Arlington Heights Fire Department stations also have been set up for police officers to be able to do work at those locations, the village said.

Construction of the new $27.9 million police station at 200 E. Sigwalt St., will begin this summer and should take 18 months to complete. The current building will be demolished to make way for the new facility, which will include a two-story, 70,500-square-foot main building and a 10,000 square-foot garage.
