Bicyclist Charged In October Road Rage Stabbing: Des Plaines PD

The 43-year-old man was formally indicted by a grand jury Wednesday on several charges, including attempted first-degree murder.

DES PLAINES, IL — A Des Plaines man has been charged with attempted first-degree murder following an investigation into a road rage incident involving a knife last October. Pablo Sosa, 43, was also charged with two counts of aggravated battery and vehicular invasion.

On Wednesday, Sosa was formally indicted by a grand jury on the charges, which were approved by the Cook County State's Attorney's Office. His court date is pending.

Police responded to the 1500 block of Miner Street at around 12:15 p.m. Oct. 11, 2024, for a report of a stabbing. Officers found the victim, later identified as a 53-year-old Skokie man, standing in the roadway, having suffered multiple stab wounds to his left arm. Officers quickly performed life-saving measures to stop the bleeding. He was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

A preliminary investigation revealed that the stabbing was a result of a road rage incident between the victim and the Sosa. At the time of the incident, Sosa fled the scene on a bicycle before the officers arrived.

Over the next several months, investigators reviewed numerous video surveillance recordings from surrounding businesses and were able to collect forensic evidence from a bicycle part left at the scene. Sosa was eventually positively identified in a photo array by a witness to the original incident.

In December 2024, police learned that Sosa had recently been arrested as a result of a parole violation and was in custody of the Illinois Department of Corrections. Sosa was originally on parole for a similar stabbing/attempted murder incident that occurred in Chicago in June 2017.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved the charges on Jan. 15.
