Burglars Toss Stolen Jewelry Out Car Windows During Chase: Des Plaines PD

The pair were fleeing police in a Mercedes-Benz following a home burglary.

DES PLAINES, IL — Two residents of Gurnee have been charged with felony counts of residential burglary following an incident last week in Des Plaines. Angelo Konstantinov, 25, and Ali Ivanov, 46, both of the 7000 block of Brae Court, were both arrested following a police chase in which the two were seen throwing stolen items, including jewelry, out the car windows of a Mercedes-Benz they were traveling in.

According to police, at around 9:26 p.m. June 22, officers responded to the 400 block of Good Avenue for a report of a residential burglary. Cook County Dispatch advised police that the caller saw the two males, who were wearing masks, baseball hats and sweatshirts, break into the home. The caller said they were out of town and had received an alert from their alarm company. The resident was able to pull up security footage from the inside the home, showing the rear door being forced open and multiple people entering the home. From there, the two ransacked the rooms and multiple drawers.

When police arrived at the scene, officers Konstantinov and Ivanov, who matched the description given by the caller, running from the 400 block of Good Avenue westbound toward the area of the 2400 block of Church Street.

The first responding officer followed them to Edward Court and saw them entering a gray Mercedes-Benz in the middle of the street. The officer began to follow the vehicle and while following, saw multiple times items being thrown out of the Mercedes-Benz windows near Ballard Road and Bender Road. Police later returned to the area and found the discarded items, which included stolen jewelry and jewelry boxes, from the home.

The vehicle was eventually stopped at 9:41 p.m. in the 9500 block of N. Greenwood Avenue, Niles, and the two were arrested.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved the felony charges.
