ELK GROVE VILLAGE, IL — Village officials are monitoring two confirmed cases of scabies infection at an Elk Grove Village hotel where 90 migrants who entered the United States at the Texas border last weekend are currently living. According to a Sunday social media post, symptoms were discovered among some of the migrants staying at the La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Chicago O'Hare Airport, 1900 E Oakton St. when the Elk Grove Village Fire Department was responding to an unrelated call.

Earlier this month, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott began sending thousands of migrants, who he said crossed the border illegally into Texas, to Washington D.C., New York City and Chicago, among other place. Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker, along with Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot, have said they welcome the new arrivals.

Officials from Alexian Brothers Medical Center have confirmed that the symptoms are a result of a scabies infection, according to the post.

Officials said the individuals affected are being provided appropriate treatment and all other migrants staying in the La Quinta have been screened for symptoms by state and county officials. The hotel is currently working to clean and sanitize the facility in order to limit possible exposure.
