Cash Tossed From Car After Rolling Meadows Bank Robbery: FBI
Authorities reported that most of the money stolen from the Rolling Meadows bank was recovered after the suspect tossed it from a car.
ROLLING MEADOWS, IL — FBI officials said one person is in federal custody after a Saturday bank robbery in Rolling Meadows followed by a 13-mile police chase into the Northwest Side of Chicago, WLS reported. The suspect is accused of robbing the Fifth Third Bank in the 1800 block of Algonquin Road around 11 a.m. before leaving the scene, the FBI said, according to the news report. According to the Daily Herald, 66-year-old Stephen Galati was charged with bank robbery for stealing $2,510, according to a criminal complaint filed by federal prosecutors Monday.
Officers on patrol Saturday said they saw Galati speed past them on Basswood Road north of Golf Road while he tossed a bag from the moving car. The Daily Herald reported that a white hair net, black gloves and sunglasses were in the bag, but no cash, according to police.
According to authorities, Chicago police were eventually able to recover a GPS tracker the bank employee included in the suspect's bag in addition to about $2,100 of the stolen money. The suspect tossed the cash from the car while driving on the Kennedy Expressway near East River Road, according to an FBI special agent's affidavit included in the complaint.
