DES PLAINES, IL — A Niles man is facing three felonies, including possession of child pornography, following his arrest for damaging three vehicles and property last month. Mark Chimon, 36, of the 9000 block of N. Clifton Avenue, is accused of felony possession of child pornography, two felony counts of criminal damage to property, and was arrested Friday at his home.

The Cook County State's Attorney's Office tells Patch the court denied a petition for Chimon's detention on Saturday. According to CCSAO, there are conditions for his pre-trial release, including no contact with children under 18, no unlawful internet contact and no child or adult pornography. He is due back in court Tuesday.

On April 20, police responded to the 300 block of Potter Road for a report someone had damaged vehicles and property. An owner of a business at the location told police he had found the items damaged, and after checking video surveillance from the previous night, saw someone walking around the parking lot. The business owner also found a cellphone on the ground where one of the vehicles was parked and believed it belonged to the person walking around.

Police found a broken Ring camera, a cracked brown flowerpot, and broken side mirrors to a Toyota Rav4 and Ford Focus.

While watching the video footage, police saw a bearded white male wearing a blue/black hat, glasses, and a black sweater, doing the damage before leaving the scene as a passenger in an unknown vehicle. After contacting the vehicle owners, police learned a third vehicle, a Jeep Cherokee, had also been damaged.

Detectives saw the man, later identified as Chimon, in the video surveillance use the cellphone before dropping it and leaving the scene.

On April 29, police obtained a search warrant through the CCSAO for the cellphone, and during the execution of the warrant, found multiple images "sensitive in nature" on the phone. The CCSAO approved the felony charges and Chimon was arrested May 16.
