Copper Wire Stolen From Amazon Property; Ruse Burglary: Blotter

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The following information comes from the Arlington Heights Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court.

INCIDENTS

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

• An unknown person entered a residence in the 500 block of S Cleveland Avenue between 3-5 p.m. Aug. 29 while the apartment was vacant and the resident was away and residing in a nursing home. Taken from the apartment were several pieces of furniture and electronics, jewelry, and silverware. The total value of the stolen items is pending further investigation.
• A resident in the 1200 block of E Waverly Place was the victim of an apparent ruse burglary between 4-4:05 p.m. Sept. 14. An unknown person entered the residence after the resident was distracted by another person. While the victim was in the rear of the property with one person posing as a lawn maintenance specialist, another person entered through the front door of the residence and ransacked the master bedroom. The person is described as male, in his 40s, with short hair, wearing dark clothing and speaking with an accent. The pair were last seen leaving the area in a newer model black Chevrolet Equinox with Illinois dealer license plates. Taken from the bedroom were several items of jewelry. The total value of the stolen items is pending further investigation.

CRIMINAL TRESPASS

• An unknown person unlawfully and forcefully entered a vacant apartment unit during the overnight hours of Sept. 12, which was unoccupied and empty of belongings, in the 200 block of N Arlington Heights Road. The door was damaged by an apparent pry tool. It does not appear anything was taken from the unit.
• Four males entered an interior building between 4:30-5 a.m. Sept. 13 at Arlington International Racecourse, 2200 W Euclid Avenue. It does not appear any damage was caused to the building nor did it appear anything had been taken by the males. The males were last seen leaving the property on bicycles.

RETAIL THEFT

• An unknown man concealed merchandise for sale on his person before leaving the store without paying between 6:51-6:54 p.m. Sept. 11 at Target, 1700 E Rand Road. The man is further described as between 30-40 years of age, wearing a surgical face mask, white shoes, blue jeans and a black T-shirt. The total retail value of the stolen merchandise is approximately $330.
• An unknown man concealed merchandise for sale on his person before leaving the store without paying for the merchandise at 3 p.m. Sept. 14 at Arlington Coin, 8 E Northwest Highway. The man is described as white, approximately 6-foot tall, 225-250 pounds, between 30-40 years old, balding with brown hair and wearing a dark-colored face mask and a Green Bay Packers T-shirt. The total retail value of the stolen merchandise is approximately $150

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

• Several unknown people tipped over a port-o-potty adjacent to the baseball fields on Arlington Heights Park District property between 1 a.m. and 11:35 p.m. Sept. 11 at Camelot Park, 1005 E Suffield Drive. There as no permanent damage caused to the port-o-potty.
• Someone unlawfully damaged the roof of a residence with an unknown object between July 1 and Sept. 11 in the 2800 block of N Windsor Drive. The cost to repair the damage is unknown.
• An unknown person damaged a person’s vehicle while it was parked in the hotel parking lot between 6 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. Sept. 16 at Double Tree Hotel, 75 W Algonquin Road. The rear driver’s side windows of the vehicle had been smashed with an unknown object. The cost to repair the damage is approximately $500.

THEFT

• Someone took a lawn sign from the front yard of a residence between 3-6 p.m. Sept. 14 in the 600 block of E Burr Oak Road. The approximate value of the sign is $10.

• Someone took cooper wire left unattended on a property in preparation for maintenance on light poles between 8 p.m. Sept. 16 and 6 a.m. Sept. 17 at Amazon, 1455 Shure Drive. The approximate value of the copper wire is $5,000.
• Someone took a person's wallet from a tabletop in the employee break room after it was left unattended between 5:20-5:30 p.m. Sept. 16 at Jewel-Osco, 440 E Rand Road. Contained in the wallet was approximately $20 in money and various credit and identification cards.

BURGLARY TO A MOTOR VEHICLE

• Someone entered a resident's unlocked vehicle while it was parked overnight in the driveway Sept. 14 in the 2200 block of N Champlain. The owner’s belongings were strewn about the vehicle. Taken from the vehicle was the victim’s garage door opener. It does not appear entry was made into the garage.
• An unknown person entered a resident's unlocked car parked in the driveway during the overnight hours of Sept. 15 in the 500 block of W Ashford. The owner’s belongings were strewn about the vehicle. It does not appear anything was taken from the vehicle.
• Someone entered a resident's unlocked vehicle while parked in the driveway during the overnight hours of Sept. 15 in the 4200 block of N Highland Avenue. The owner’s belongings were strewn about the vehicle. It does not appear anything was taken from the vehicle.
