Drive-By Shooting Injures 2 In Gang-Related Incident: Mt Prospect PD

The Friday night shooting remains under investigation with police analyzing forensic evidence.

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — Two men were injured Friday night during a drive-by shooting in Mount Prospect. Police said the incident was gang-related and not a random act of violence.

Officers responded to the 1700 block of Chariot Court at 9:37 p.m. for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, they found two men had been shot and immediately provided aid to the victims by utilizing tourniquets until paramedics arrived and continued care. Both victims were taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. Their injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

Police said an initial investigation revealed the two victims were in the parking lot of an apartment building when multiple people drove by in a white-colored SUV and began shooting at the victims. The shooters then fled the area.

Crime scene technicians found multiple shell casings and damage to other vehicles and apartment buildings consistent with being struck with bullets. No other injuries were reported.

Police were able to identify the SUV by using license plate recognition cameras in the area and shared the information with neighboring police agencies. One of those agencies located the car and took three people into custody. Two firearms were found in the SUV. The trio is facing possible charges related to the vehicle pursuit in the other jurisdiction.

As of Saturday, no charges have been filed in regard to the shooting, but police continue to actively investigate the incident, including the analysis of forensic evidence.
