Driver Killed After Rear-Ending Stopped Van In Des Plaines: Police

The Friday night accident occurred at the intersection of Algonquin and Wolf roads.

DES PLAINES, IL — A 58-year-old Chicago man was killed during a traffic accident Friday night at the intersection of Algonquin and Wolf roads. The name of the deceased had not been released by the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office as of Saturday afternoon.

According to police, a 2008 Nissan Rouge was traveling eastbound on Algonquin Road, approaching Wolf Road, at 8:25 p.m. when it struck the rear of a 2005 Chevrolet Express van. The van was stopped eastbound at Algonquin road at a red light on Wolf Road.

Des Plaines firefighters arrived at the scene and attempted life-saving attempts on the driver of the Nissan, but he was pronounced dead.

Police said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.
