Fatal Stabbing Arrest Made In Des Plaines: Police
A 63-year-old Chicago man has been charged with felony first degree murder following the death of a Des Plaines woman.

DES PLAINES, IL — A Chicago man, accused of fatally stabbing a Des Plaines woman last week, was arrested Wednesday and charged with first degree murder. Dwayne Thompson, 63, of the 4700 block of W. Van Buren Street, remains in the Cook County Jail.
Roberta S. Langan, 50, of Des Plaines, died from her injuries after being taken to a local hospital following the Dec. 5 incident.
The Cook County State's Attorney's Office approved the felony charge.

According to police, at around 9:27 p.m. Dec. 5, officers responded to the 1400 block of Ashland Avenue for a report of a female — later identified as Langan — lying in the common hallway of that apartment building, having suffered multiple stab wounds. Police arrived and provided first aid to the victim until the Des Plaines Fire Department arrived and took Langan to an area hospital. In the early morning of Dec. 6, Langan succumbed to her injuries.

Investigators identified Thompson as a person of interest through electronic evidence, and a witness placing him with Langam in the 1400 block of Ashland Avenue on the night of the crime. Investigators placed Thompson under surveillance as the investigation continued. According to police, further information developed, providing investigators with probable cause to arrest Thompson. He was taken into custody at the Pulaski Food and Deli store located at 2024 S. Pulaski Road in Chicago.
Police said video surveillance footage shows Thompson leaving the area of the incident wearing the same coat he was wearing when taken into custody. Thompson additionally made corroborating statements confirming information developed by investigators throughout the investigation. Thompson told investigators that he recently met Langan and was going to rent a room from her at her apartment. He said they had a brief dating relationship.
