Fire Safety Alliance Supporting Families with Young Burn Survivors at Annual Family Day Event

Families from across the state to join IFSA at Schaumburg Boomers game on August 27th

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL – Baseball, dogs, magicians, and more! These are just a few of the activities that will be taking place at the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance’s (IFSA) 3rd Annual Family Day program on Sunday, August 27. The event, which is supported by First Alert, is available at no-cost to families who have a young burn survivor between the ages of 0-12 years old. Family Day will take place at Boomers Stadium in which the Schaumburg Boomers baseball team will take on the Lake Erie Crushers at 1:00 p.m.

This event brings together nearly 50 families from across Illinois to meet others who have gone through a tragic event in which a young one received an injury due to burns. Family Day helps create an environment of mutual acceptance, respect, and support, while participating in family-friendly events and activities. Attendees will also learn about other IFSA support programs such as Camp “I Am Me,” a one-week overnight camp that is held for approximately 75 kids, 8-16 years old, in June of each year. This past June was the IFSA’s 27th annual “burn camp.”

“This annual event allows us to reach out to families of young burn survivors and provide them with educational information regarding burns and the effects they may have on children,” says Philip Zaleski, Executive Director of the IFSA. “But more importantly, it offers parents and children the opportunity to network by sharing stories, suggestions, and ideas amongst one another and to enjoy, in this case, a day at a ballpark.”

In addition to families receiving free tickets to the baseball game, they will be treated to an all-you-can-eat buffet, an in-game pet parade, face painting, have the opportunity for player autographs, and run the bases after the game. Every family will also go home with a bag full of goodies.
