ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A former Saint Viator basketball coach and counselor is charged with aggravated sexual abuse for allegations he groped a student inside his office last May. Joseph P. Majkowski faces the new charge months after authorities arrested him for sending inappropriate texts to students, police said. Majkowksi was arrested on Dec. 27 in connection with the May 2019 groping incident. Authorities launched the sex abuse investigation into Majkowski in October after a student came forward claiming Majkowksi rubbed her shoulders, chest and breasts, according to a news release from the Arlington Heights Police Department. School officials said they were “saddened” when they learned about the charges brought against Majkowski, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. They also said Majkowski has not had access to Saint Viator’s campus or students since June when the allegations of the inappropriate texts surfaces. Majkowski's bail was set at $25,000 in the sex abuse case and he was released after posting 10 percent of his bond on Dec. 28. He is next expected in court on Jan. 23, according to Cook County Sheriff's Office officials.
