On Saturday, December 10th, 14 residents and staff from Friendship Village joined thousands of their neighbors and peers, for the Hope Filled Holiday Meal Packing Event. Held at Schaumburg Convention Center, the community-wide event benefited Feed My Starving Children. For three days, volunteers packed meals to provide critical food support in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.
“The goal for the over all event was for 5,000 volunteers to pack one-million meals, but that goal was dramatically exceeded,” said Jeannette Magdaleno, manager of life long learning and volunteer services for Friendship Village. “Over the three day event, 7,500 volunteers packed 1.4 million meals. During Friendship Village’s two-hour shift, we helped pack 150,000 meals. This will provide food for 500 children for a year. Our residents love to volunteer and we are so proud to have been part of this wonderful, community-wide event.”
