Gas Line Fire Shuts Down Recreation Center, Pool In Schaumburg: Village

A road was shut down for several hours due to the Monday morning fire.

SCHAUMBURG, IL — A fire shut down the Meineke Recreation Center for several hours Monday, with an investigation ongoing. According to the Village of Schaumburg, the fire was reported at around 11:03 a.m., and appears to have been the result of a gas line being hit while construction was taking place at the center.

Officials said no injuries have been reported. The fire was contained to the construction site at 220 E. Weathersfield Way. The recreation center and adjacent pool area were evacuated and closed. Nicor Gas was on scene.

Due to the presence of fire and police personnel, Weathersfield Way was closed to traffic from Queens Court to Creighton Lane. Residents were asked to avoid the area.

As of 1:53 p.m., officials said Meineke is allowing limited access while the investigation of the fire is completed. Weathersfield Way is re-opened in both directions. Some emergency personnel will remain on scene as the investigation continues.
