Golf Carts Stolen, Taken for Joy Ride: Police Blotter

The Arlington Heights Police Department responded to various reports of criminal damage to property in recent weeks.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The Arlington Heights Police Department responded to several reports of criminal damage to property in recent weeks. Among those reports was an alleged incident where a person or group of people took two golf carts for a joy ride after removing the vehicles from a shed at Sunset Meadows Park, 700 S. Dwyer Avenue, between 12 p.m. on Aug. 22 and 8:30 a.m. on Aug. 23, according to a police report.

The offender or offenders parked the golf carts in random locations on the property. One of the golf carts sustained damage to its windshield, according to authorities.

During the incident, the offender or offenders also opened a safe in the shed and took $600 and defecated in a sink.

The cost to repair the damaged golf cart will be around $200, authorities said.

  • Five juvenile offenders riding bikes damaged the exterior of a home in the 100 block of South Chestnut by throwing eggs at the residence. The incident occurred at 10:15 p.m. on Aug. 24.
  • Around 8 p.m. on Aug. 22, an unknown offender or offenders shot a BB gun at a home in the 300 block of S. Prindle Avenue. The pellets hit the outside of the home and caused damage to the siding. The cost to repair the damage is unknown at this time.
  • Arlington Heights police received a report of a female who used a baseball bat to damage a car parked at an apartment complex in the 2100 block of S. Tonne Drive in Arlington Heights. A witness saw the woman use the bat to damage the windshield and hood of the car, which was parked legally in the apartment complex parking lot. The woman was described as being black, heavyset and between 30 to 35 years old and was wearing a patterned dress. The person who witnessed the incident, which occurred between 4:30 and 4:54 a.m. on Aug. 24, called the police but the offender fled just before police arrival on scene. A search of the area was conducted but was unsuccessful. The owner of the vehicle was contacted and advised they are unsure of who would have wanted to damage their vehicle. The cost to repair the damage is unknown at this time, authorities said.
