Have You Seen This Semi? Arlington Heights Police Want Help Finding Stolen Truck

Tollway records show the semitrailer truck was taken some time between Dec. 2 and 27 of last year, police said.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Car theft, while brazen, is a fairly pedestrian criminal offense, and in many cases, the vehicle's owner has aided the theft by leaving the doors unlocked or the keys on the front seat.

But stealing a semitrailer truck? That's an automotive chassis of a different color. Semis are big, noisy and require specialized knowledge to drive them. Not even Nicolas Cage and Angelina Jolie tried to steal a tractor-trailer in "Gone in 60 Seconds."¹

Arlington Heights police, however, are investigating just that type of thievery after the owner of a white 2009 Volvo tractor truck recently reported it stolen.

The victim parked the truck, which wasn't hooked up to a trailer, on Dec. 2 in a business parking lot near Dundee Road and Route 53 in the village, police said. He then left it in the lot for a little more than two months.

When the victim returned Feb. 12, he discovered the semi had been stolen, which means it was gone in 60 days.

Tri-State Tollway records show the truck traveled northbound through the Touhy Avenue toll plaza in Des Plaines on Dec. 27, according to police.

The vehicle carries Illinois license plates P920084, and "Square Transportation Solutions" is written in black letters on both sides of the sleeper cab.

Anyone with information about the semitrailer truck and its theft can submit an anonymous tip the following ways:
