Man Attacks, Cuts Roommate With 'Large' Knife: Palatine PD

The Arlington Heights resident has been charged with multiple felonies, including attempted murder, stemming from last month's incident.

PALATINE, IL — A 73-year-old Arlington Heights man was charged Tuesday with multiple felonies stemming from an attack on a roommate last month while inside a Palatine apartment. Juan Hernandez is accused of felony attempted murder, felony aggravated domestic battery, two counts of felony aggravated battery following the April 8 incident in the Windhaven Condominiums, 17 E Dundee Quarter Drive.

Hernandez will remain in custody until his next court date on June 21 following a Wednesday detention hearing. Police said he also had two outstanding warrants out of Lake County for aggravated battery at the time of his arrest.

According to police, while inside the Palatine apartment, Hernandez reportedly attacked his 37-year-old male roommate with a large knife before fleeing the scene. The victim sustained cut wounds, was treated at an area hospital and released.
