Gang Shooting Near School: Man Charged In Mount Prospect Incident
An arrest was made in connection with a gang-related incident from earlier this month that included a police car pursuit on I-294.

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — A Prospect Heights man is accused of a felony count of aggravated discharge of a firearm stemming from an incident earlier this month near Robert Frost Elementary School. Jacob Mikulski, 25, of the 800 block of E. Old Willow Road, was arrested Friday in connection with the gang-related incident, according to the Mount Prospect Police Department.
At around 4:35 p.m. July 1, police responded to multiple 911 calls of shots fired near the school at 1805 N. Aspen Drive. As officers were responding, witnesses relayed that two people ran away northbound from the scene on foot. Four other people fled the scene in a white-colored minivan that was parked nearby, according to police.
An officer, who was responding to the scene, saw the white minivan and attempted to stop the vehicle. The minivan failed to stop and continued driving, leading officers on a pursuit. The pursuit ended on southbound Interstate 294, near Oakton Street, when the minivan came to a stop due to a mechanical issue and all four occupants of the minivan were taken into custody.

Detectives located multiple shell casings at the scene and recovered the firearm that Mikulski fired during the incident, according to police. Detectives determined the motive behind this crime was gang-related.
