Man Robs $14K In Chips With Gun At Des Plaines Casino: IL Gaming Board

The Illinois Gaming Board said the incident at Rivers Casino Des Plaines involved a 23-year-old Chicago Ridge resident.

DES PLAINES, IL — A 23-year-old Chicago Ridge man is accused of pulling out a handgun, pointing it at employees and stealing $14,1000 in chips on Oct. 31 at Rivers Casino in Des Plaines. Ismail Ahmed Ateyat is being charged with three counts of armed robbery, according to the Illinois Gaming Board.

Ateyat was arrested Nov. 1 at his home and reportedly found the handgun, a black face mask he was wearing during the crime and the stolen chips. He is currently being held at the Cook County Jail without bond. Ateyat is due back in court on Nov. 30.

"Because of the swift and diligent work by our gaming agents and our local law enforcement
partners, we were able to arrest this individual and recover the stolen casino chips," IGB
Administrator Marcus D. Fruchter said in a news release. "I am grateful to our gaming agents, Illinois State Police, Chicago Ridge police, and the staff at Rivers Casino."
