DES PLAINES, IL — A Des Plaines man is accused of felony possession of a stolen motor vehicle following a December incident in which a car was stolen from an auto dealership. Robert Schoen, 49, of the 1000 block of S. Des Plaines River Road, Des Plaines, was arrested Jan. 4 in connection with the crime.
Police responded to the auto dealer in the 1200 block of Rand Road on Dec. 22 for a report of a stolen motor vehicle. On the prior night, between 10:59 p.m. and 11:59 p.m., a Toyota Prius had been parked in a lot and someone had entered the unlocked car, finding the key fob inside. According to police, Schoen started the car and fled the parking lot.
On Dec. 24, the Mount Prospect Police Department located the stolen car in a parking lot in the 900 block of Mount Prospect Plaza. When a Des Plaines officer arrived there, he met with Mount Prospect police and the victim. The latter said he had seen the car traveling northwest on Rand Road. Schoen had reportedly parked the car in the Mount Prospect parking lot, exited it and locked the car.
