Memorial Blood Drive For 'Mighty Mite' Planned For Arlington Heights
Emily Ann Holum, 6, of Arlington Heights, died from acute myeloid leukemia in 2007.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — Emily Ann Holum would've been 24 years old Friday. Despite her death from acute myeloid leukemia at the age of 6, her memory has lived on over the years, as evident by an annual blood drive in her memory.
This year's blood drive is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 23, at Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church in Arlington Heights, where Holum was once a parishioner. It will be held in the gym at 435 S. Ridge Drive.
According to the church, last year's drive collected 156 units of blood, which went to help approximately 468 lives.

Holum, affectionately known as "Mighty Mite," was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia at the age of four. She courageously battled the disease for two years, "demonstrating grace, dignity, and determination." Throughout her journey, Holum required numerous blood transfusions, highlighting the critical need for blood donations, according to Vitalant, which is putting on the blood drive.
The event is organized by Holum's family, "to honor Emily's memory and continue her legacy of helping others.
