Police Identify Driver Killed After Metra Train Hits SUV

The Rolling Meadows woman drove around an activated railroad crossing guards and was struck by the train.

Police have identified the woman killed when her vehicle was struck by a Metra train in Arlington Heights as Zaiemunnisa Khan, 61, of Rolling Meadows.

The crash occurred when Khan drove through an activated railroad crossing gate in the area of Northwest Highway and Euclid Avenue around 2:30 p.m. Her 2009 Honda Element was hit by an eastbound Metra train, police said.

The vehicle caught fire after impact and was pushed approximately 1000 feet east of the Euclid crossing and came to rest near the intersection of Northwest Highway and Ridge Avenue. No injuries were sustained to any employees or passengers on the train.

The crash remains under investigation and police said evidence suggests the warning devices at Northwest Highway and Euclid Avenue were working properly at the time of the crash.

The crash caused delays on the Union Pacific/Northwest line Thursday afternoon.
