Motorcyclist, 18, Killed After Striking Car In Mount Prospect: Police

Two pickup truck drivers were involved in the Tuesday incident that shut down traffic in the area for seven hours.

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — An 18-year-old Mundelein resident was killed Tuesday after his motorcycle struck the back of a pickup truck. Daniel Vazquez succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.

The crash occurred at around 6 a.m. and shut down traffic for seven hours near the intersection of Algonquin Road (Route 62) and Briarwood Drive.

Police received a 911 call regarding the crash and, upon arriving at the scene, found Vazquez lying in the roadway as Good Samaritans were attempting to provide help. Officers attempted to render aid, but Vazquez had already died.

According to a preliminary investigation, Vazquez, who was wearing a motorcycle helmet, was traveling eastbound on Algonquin Road in the median lane when his motorcycle struck the back of a pickup truck that was preparing to turn left into a private driveway. Another pickup truck was traveling eastbound on Algonquin Road and was also involved in the crash. The two drivers of the truck were not injured in the crash.

The Mount Prospect Police Department's Major Crash Investigation Team, along with the Major Case Assistance Team's Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (STAR) are investigating the crash. An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing. Mount Prospect police are requesting anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has any additional information to contact the department’s Major Crash Investigation Team at 847-818-5301.
