No Bail For Man Accused Of Shooting At Youths In Mount Prospect

The charge stems from an October 2022 gang-related incident in which a child was wounded.

MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — A man accused of shooting at a group of youths last October, wounding one of them, is being charged with attempted murder. Christian Longsworth, 26, of the 10000 block of Holly Lane, Des Plaines, was arrested in connection with the gang-related incident earlier this week following a nearly four-month investigation.

Longsworth appeared in court Tuesday, where he was given no bond and remanded to remain in custody of the Cook County Jail. His next scheduled court date is March 3.

At around 8:28 p.m. Oct. 18, 2022, police responded to the 1900 block of Seneca Lane for a report of shots fired and one person suffering from a gunshot wound. Officers located a juvenile victim with a single gunshot wound and immediately rendered aid before he was taken to an area hospital with serious injuries.

During the preliminary investigation, police learned the victim and four friends were walking in the area of Aspen Drive and Aztec Lane when they were approached by three subjects on foot. Police said gang-related comments were yelled, followed by shots being fired at the victim and his four friends. The victim fled eastbound on foot and the subjects ran back to a nearby parked vehicle, before fleeing the area.

At the time, police said none of the victims lived in Mount Prospect. Multiple shell casings were found near the intersection of Aspen Drive and Aztec Lane.

In the subsequent months following the incident, Mount Prospect police said they were able to link physical and digital evidence from the scene of the shooting to Longsworth. In addition, Longsworth was found to be in possession of a firearm used in the shooting when he was taken into custody by another law enforcement agency, with the assistance of Mount Prospect detectives and gang unit officers, on an unrelated charge on Oct. 24, 20222
