Pedestrian Struck And Killed By Box Truck In Arlington Heights
The Saturday accident, involving an Arlington Heights resident, was at Rand Road near Thomas Street, an area with no dedicated crosswalk.
ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — A 60-year-old Arlington Heights man was struck and killed by an international box truck Saturday on Rand Road near Thomas Street. Police and fire department personnel responded to the 1300 block of Rand Road at around 6 p.m. and determined Nick Gardanov was beyond medical assistance.
According to police, a preliminary at-scene investigation determined a large white International box truck was traveling in the inside lane of northwest bound Rand Road from Thomas Street. Gardanov was walking on/crossing Rand and was struck by the truck. There is no dedicated crosswalk in the immediate area.
First responders found Gardanov unresponsive with significant traumatic injuries. A local emergency department physician confirmed and pronounced via telemetry.

The serious traffic accident reconstruction team of the Major Case Assistance Team was activated to assist with the at-scene investigation.
Rand Road between Dryden and Thomas was closed during the investigation and later reopened Saturday night.
