Police: Fire at Uptown Cafe to Close Restaurant for Weeks
The fire at Uptown Cafe in Arlington Heights started on the roof and was extinguished quickly, but smoke and water damage will cause the restaurant to be closed for the next couple of weeks, according to police on the scene.
A fire that occurred at Uptown Cafe, 24 E. Miner Street, on Wednesday afternoon will cause the business to be closed for at least the next couple of weeks, according to Arlington Heights police officials on the scene.
The fire started on the roof at 1:52 p.m. Wednesday.
Police say workers were tarring the roof at the time it began, and the fire burned insulation and caused smoke to enter into the restaurant as patrons were sitting down eating.

The Arlington Heights Fire Department quickly extinguished the fire, but there is significant water and smoke damage to the restaurant, police said.
Everyone in the restaurant at the time the fire began, including the owners, were evacuated safely an no one was injured.
