Police Release Photo of Suspect in Package Thefts Around Arlington Heights

The suspect takes deliveries left at the front door of homes and swamps them with empty packages from previous thefts, police say.

Arlington Heights, IL—Police are investigating a series of package thefts that have been happening around the city since June 28.

A photo of a possible suspect and a description of the vehicle being used in these thefts were released by Arlington Heights police Thursday.

According to police, the suspect takes a package that has been left at the door of a residence and swaps it with an empty one that he had previously stole from another home in Arlington heights. The suspect then has been seen leaving the scene in a purple Ford Explorer driven by another individual.

  • Shopkin collectible dolls
  • surgical drill bits worth about $4,000

Police warn that delivered packages are popular targets for thieves. They advise residents to follow a few strategies to avoid having deliveries stolen off their front steps:

  • carefully track packages from the delivery companies
  • arrange deliveries with neighbors if you're not home
  • set up a spot hidden from street view where packages can be delivered
