Rash Of Retail Thefts Hit Rand Road Businesses: Blotter

A number of Rand Road businesses — including Target and Jewel-Osco — were affected by a wave of thefts, Arlington Heights police said.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The following information comes from the Arlington Heights Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court.

Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

DOMESTIC BATTERY

  • Alexander H. Szypulski, 27, of Arlington Heights, is accused of domestic battery, interference with a report of domestic violence, and was arrested at 9:15 a.m. July 16. He was held in municipal jail prior to a July 17 court date.
  • Zarayya N Noble, 23, of the 1900 block of E 73rd Place, Chicago, is accused of domestic battery, criminal damage to property less than $300, and was arrested at 1:24 a.m. July 20 in the 0-100 block of E Algonquin. Noble was given a court date of Aug. 17.
  • Anuar Serikbayev, 30, of Arlington Heights, is accused of domestic battery with bodily harm, and was arrested at 5:03 p.m July 22. He was given a court date of Aug. 19.

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL

  • Joanna L. Tamayo, 19, of the 1000 block of Arbor Court, Mount Prospect, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, and was arrested at 1:45 a.m. July 16 at Arlington Heights Road and Noyes Street. She was released on bond and given a court date of Aug. 19.
  • Jose Flores Beltran, 31, of the 600 block of E Dundee Road, Arlington Heights, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, and was arrested at 12:06 a.m. July 18 in the 1100 block of S Arlington Heights Road. He was released on bond and given a court date of Aug. 24.

Alex Rashid, 40, of the 2300 block of S Goebbert Road, Arlington Heights, is accused of driving under the influence of drugs, driving on a suspended/revoked license, and was arrested at 4:22 a.m. July 18 in the 0-100 block of W Golf Road. Rashid was scheduled to appear in court on July 21.

RETAIL THEFT

  • Kelly S. Degand, 41, of the 300 block of Greenbriar Street, Glen Ellyn, is accused of retail theft, and was arrested at 6:15 p.m. July 18 in the 400 block of E Rand Road. Degand was given a court date of Aug. 5.
  • Brandon Scott Pence, 25, of the 0-100 block of N734 Gates Avenue, Itasca, is accused of retail theft, and was arrested at 7:36 p.m. July 19 in the 400 block of E Rand Road. He was bonded out and given a court date of Sept. 1.
  • Helena Lattuca, 44, of the 1200 block of S. 59th Court, Cicero, is accused of retail theft, and was arrested at 9:30 p.m. July 19 in the 400 block of E Rand Road. She bonded out and given a court date of Aug. 24.
  • Krystal M. Klans, 29, of the 4000 block of Konrad, Lyons, is accused of retailt theft, and was arrested at 9:35 p.m. July 19 in the 400 block of E Rand Road. She was bonded out and given a court date of Aug. 24.

CARRYING A CONCEALED FIREARM UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL

Chris A. Behnam, 36, of the 8400 block of N Shermer Road, Niles, is accused of carrying a concealed firearm under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of alcohol, and was arrested at 3:53 a.m. July 19 at Goebbert and Golf roads. He was bonded out and given a court date of Aug. 18.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

Romell Z. Johnson, 30, of 200 block of Fishing Lane, Wood Dale, is accused of criminal damage to property less than $300, and was arrested at 1:24 a.m. July 20 in the 0-100 block of W Algonquin. He was released on bond and given a court date of Sept. 1.

IDENTITY THEFT

Michelle M. Wulf, 51, of the 1100 block of S. Northpoint Boulevard, Waukegan, is accused of identity theft between $10,000-100,000, theft, forgery, and was arrested at 2:01 p.m. July 20 in the 3800 block of Fountain Square Place. She was given a court date of Aug. 21.

VIOLATION OF ORDER OF PROTECTION

Ryan Keith Mikell, 27, of the 0-100 E Northwest Highway, Arlington Heights, is accused of a violation of an order of protection, disorderly conduct, and was arrested at 3:43 p.m. July 22 in the 1400 block of Golf Road. He was given a court date of Aug. 13.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

Michal N. Michalski, 45, of the 300 block of W Hawthorne Circle, Mount Prospect, is accused of disorderly conduct, and was arrested at 8:10 a.m. July 23, in the 400 block of W Algonquin Road. He was given a court date of Aug. 5.

INCIDENTS

RETAIL THEFT

  • An employee at Target, 1700 E Rand Road, reported that between 2:30-4:50 p.m. July 21 an unknown white male concealed merchandise for sale on his person before leaving the store without paying for the merchandise. The male is described as approximately 6-foot tall, medium build and wearing a face mask, a ball cap, a long-sleeved shirt and blue jeans. He was last seen leaving the area in a newer model silver BMW SUV with an unknown license plate. The total retail value of the stolen merchandise is approximately $500.
  • An employee at Target, 1700 E Rand Road, called police at 8:56 p.m. July 15 to report a white female concealed merchandise for sale on her person before leaving the store without paying for the merchandise. The female is described as having dark hair and wearing a medical face mask and a black shirt. She was later identified as the same offender in a retail theft at another local Target store. The female was last seen leaving the area in a white vehicle with an unknown license plate. The total retail value of the stolen merchandise is approximately $500.
  • An employee at Target, 1700 E Rand Road, reported at 8:50 p.m. July 20 an unknown white male concealed merchandise for sale on his person before leaving the store without paying for the merchandise. The male is further described as wearing a blue face mask, a Chicago Cubs jacket and blue jeans. He was last seen leaving the area in an older model SUV with an unknown license plate. The total retail value of the stolen merchandise is approximately $70.
  • An employee at Jewel-Osco, 440 E Rand Road, called police to report that between 9:15-10 p.m. July 19 an unknown male and female concealed merchandise for sale on their persons before leaving the store without paying for the merchandise. The male is described as Hispanic, with a thin build and a dark-colored ponytail. The female is described as Hispanic with a medium build and carrying a bag. The two were last seen leaving the area in a gray or silver minivan with an unknown license plate. The total retail value of the stolen merchandise is approximately $820.

BURGLARY

An employee of Dunkin' Donuts, 4204 N Arlington Heights Road, reported between 11:16-11:19 p.m. July 21 an unknown male unlawfully and forcefully entered the business while the business was closed. The glass of the front door was broken. It appears a blunt object was used to break the glass before the male made entry into the business. He was observed via security camera and is further described as wearing a black quarter zip hooded sweatshirt, dark blue pants, gloves, a ski mask, and carrying a red drawstring backpack. Taken from the business was approximately $2,200.

THEFT

  • A resident in the 700 block of E Golf Road called police to report someone took a package between 9:51 a.m. and 6 p.m. July 17 from the communal mail area at the apartment complex. The value of the package’s contents is pending investigation.
  • A person reported that between 9:45-10:11 p.m. July 17 an unknown person took an unattended and unlocked bicycle at the bike rack near Harmony Park, South Vale Avenue. The bicycle is described as a blue and white, Grand Specialized Mountain bike (7-speed) with a broken gear shifter. The value of the bicycle is unknown.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

It was reported that between 4 p.m. July 21 and 2:48 a.m. July 22 someone damaged all exterior windows, hood, trunk, and a majority of the interior of the person’s car while the vehicle was parked in the business parking lo at Lexus of Arlington Heights, 1460 W Dundee Road. The damage caused to the vehicle was extensive. It does not appear anything was taken from the vehicle. The cost to repair the damage is under investigation at this time.
