Neri met the pizza delivery employee at his apartment building door in the 100 block of S. Des Plaines Road. The victim told police that Neri had grown upset, accusing the employee of not delivering an item he said he ordered. At that time, Neri reportedly grabbed the victim and pulled him inside his apartment unit and then stood between the victim and the door blocking it, so the victim was unable to exit.
The delivery driver had been given $20 in cash prior to the delivery to make change for Neri since he was paying for his order with cash. At the time the victim was in Neri's apartment, the money was in the victim's hand and Neri removed it from their possession while holding a kitchen knife. Police said eventually the victim left the apartment to return to his company and called 911.
