Scammer Attempts To Buy Car Not For Sale: Arlington Heights PD Blotter

Police said the woman arrived at the home in an SUV, entered a garage, looked at the car, then told the complainant she wanted to buy it.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The following information comes from the Arlington Heights Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court.

Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

Nicholas P. Barstatis, 23, is accused of criminal damage to property, resisting a peace officer, obstructing identification, and was arrested at 5:02 p.m. Feb. 11, at Jewel, 17 W. Golf Road. A court date of March 2 was assigned.

DOMESTIC BATTERY

More Bility, 24, is accused of two counts of domestic battery, and was arrested at 8:42 p.m. Feb. 13, in the 800 block of W. Central Road, Arlington Heights. Bility was due at a bond court hearing on Feb. 14.

VIOLATION OF BAIL BOND

Deontray H. Dennis, 28, had a warrant for violation of bail bond, and was arrested at 3:33 p.m. Feb. 12, at Red Roof Inn, 20 block of W. Algonquin Road. Bond was set at $3,000.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

Richard W. Fege, 27, is accused of disorderly conduct (giving a false fire alarm), criminal damage to property, and was arrested at 10:12 a.m. Feb. 13, at Holiday Inn Express, 2100 block of S. Arlington Heights Road. Bond was set at $10,000 and a court date of March 16 was assigned.

INCIDENTS

SUSPICIOUS INCIDENT

A resident in the 700 block of N. Haddow Avenue reported that between 4 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. Feb. 6, a woman arrived at her residence in a black SUV, entered her garage, looked at her car, then told the complainant she wanted to buy it. The car was not for sale, but the unknown female left her phone number with the complainant. It was later determined the female subject was a “self-proclaimed gypsy” and her actions were related to an attempted scam.

THEFT

  • An employee of a business in the 3400 block of N. Kennicott Avenue called police at noon Feb. 7, to report a woman entered her business office and stole her purse, which contained approximately $400 and credit cards. The victim’s credit cards were subsequently used at Woodfield Mall. The subject is described as a black female, middle-aged, 5-foot-7, with freckles, wearing a beige scarf and a long coat.
  • A resident of Ashton Apartments, 2400 block of S. Goebbert Road, reported that between 10:55 a.m. and 4:05 p.m. Feb. 8, someone entered the lobby and stole a package valued at $56.

RETAIL THEFT

An employee of Dick's Sporting Goods, 401 E. Palatine Road, reported at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 7, someone stole men’s and women’s athletic gear valued at approximately $3,710. The subject left the area in a blue Chevrolet Impala. The subject is described as a black female approximately 5-foot-8, wearing a black hat, blue surgical mask, black scarf, gray puffy winter jacket, blue jeans, and tan shoes.

BURGLARY

An employee at Dryden Place Apartment, 27 N. Dryden Avenue, reported at 9:17 a.m. Feb. 8, someone into the boiler room and stole rent checks. The subject is described as a white male, wearing a gray hoodie, blue sweatpants and light brown work boots.

THEFT OF MOTOR VEHICLE PARTS OR ACCESSORIES

A citizen reported that between Feb. 8 and Feb. 9, someone stole the catalytic converter off his 2012 Toyota while it was parked at Holiday Inn Express, 2111 S. Arlington Heights Road. The cost to replace the catalytic converter is unknown.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

  • A resident in the 1200 block of N. Mitchel Avenue called police to report that between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Feb. 10, someone broke into their house and stole personal items.
  • A resident in the 1400 block of N. Highland Avenue reported that between 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m Feb. 10, someone broke i to her house and stole personal items.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE

A resident in the 1700 block of Woods Drive reported that during the overnight hours of Feb. 11, someone entered their unlocked black Chevrolet and white Lincoln and stole loose change.
