Schaumburg High School Counselor Gets Behavioral Health Award

(Springfield, IL) – Illinois’ leading behavioral health advocacy group presented its prized addiction prevention award last week to Schaumburg High School counselor Brent Swolsky.

The Illinois Association for Behavioral Health’s (IABH) top leader, CEO Sara Howe, presented the group’s prestigious “IABH Prevention Leadership Award” to Swolsky during a school assembly on November 15, recognizing his “leadership” on youth addiction prevention.

“Each year, the IABH Prevention Leadership Award recognizes the hard work and commitment of a person who contributes to the addiction prevention field in Illinois,” said Howe. “The decision this year was an easy one: Brent Swolsky. Brent embodies the mission of our youth prevention programs – someone who is a selfless, hardworking, and passionate leader.”

Swolsky, a 22-year education veteran, has been working for years with IABH’s youth programs – Operation Snowball and the Cebrin Goodman Teen Institute – has identified innovative ways to encourage students to grow their leadership skills or provide education on healthy ways to prevent addiction, according to Howe.

“Brent is always looking to do more and be more,” said Howe, “He is a great example of a positive role model for so many youth across the state, and we thank him for his groundbreaking work in addiction prevention.”

“I am deeply honored to receive the Illinois Association for Behavioral Health’s prevention leadership award,” said Swolsky. “My work and success depend in large measure on the commitment and leadership on the part of the students themselves who work diligently to advance the cause of healthy living.”
