Shots Fired During Family Fight: Hoffman Estates PD

A family member, who had pulled out a gun and fired it during the Wednesday night incident, was eventually located by police.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL — A person is in custody for firing a gun during a family fight Wednesday night in the 5100 block of Chambers Drive. Family members on scene were treated and released by the Hoffman Estates Fire Department and there is no threat to the community at this time.

Chung Yum, 50, is accused of felony reckless discharge of a firearm, police said Thursday. A second person was charged with a misdemeanor count of domestic battery causing bodily harm. Both are due in court Friday for a bond hearing.

Police arrived at the scene at around 5:48 p.m. for a report of people fighting and possibly shots fired. Witnesses told police they saw a subject leave in a vehicle.

According to police, an investigation revealed that an argument between family members turned physical. During the altercation, one of the family members grabbed a firearm and discharged the weapon into the ceiling of the home, before leaving the area. There were no injuries from the discharged weapon.

A description of the subject was provided, he was subsequently was found by police and was taken into custody without incident. Charges are pending.
