Should District 25 Approve a $35M Bond Sale to Fund Additions to 2 Schools? (POLL)

The bonds also would pay for a series of life safety upgrades throughout the district.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — In order to fund a series of district projects, including building additions to two schools, Arlington Heights School District 25 is considering selling at least $35.1 million in bonds, the Daily Herald reports.

The two schools needing additions are Thomas Middle and Windsor Elementary, the report stated. Work on Thomas will begin in November, and the Windsor project is expected to start in March, the report added. Construction on both projects—which are needed because expanding student enrollment in the district—is expected to be completed by the 2017-18 school year.

Here's the work that needs to be done at each school, as well as their individual estimated costs, according to the Herald:

  • Thomas Middle School: Building a larger gym and turning the old gym into a band room, music and five additional classrooms. $15 million.
  • Windsor Elementary School: Creating new bathrooms, six classrooms and three office and meeting rooms. The gym and commons area also will be expanded. $9.8 million.

The district also would use the bonds to fund $10.25 million in life safety upgrades across the district, the report stated.

The district school board will vote on whether or not to do a bond sale at its Sept. 22 meeting.
