Singing Sheriff Posts Memoir on Facebook and Finds Long Lost Family
Bob Cesario received the surprise of his life—a sister he never knew saw photos of his mother and realized that was her mother, too!

At age 16 Bob Cesario learned that he was adopted, and that the people he called mom and dad were his grandparents and that one of his “brothers” actually was his birth father! Fast forward to a few days ago when Bob posted photos of the beautiful woman he had heard was his birth mother, but whom he had never met as his birth parents had never married. Bob posted the story of how his parents, both professional singers, had met. Then, to Bob’s shock, he sees that a woman he does not know has commented on his posting … “THAT’S MY MOTHER!!!!!” Incredibly, he and his newfound sister share in common a Facebook friend. They also have discovered that they have been living all their lives in the same areas of the Chicago suburbs and city. And Bob actually now has two sisters and a brother living right here in Chicago that he never knew. You couldn’t write that in a movie and have anyone believe it!

Bob Cesario, also known as the Singing Sheriff, has retired after having protected and served the community as part of the Cook County Sheriff’s office for 38 years. Bob is now pursuing his passion, music, on a full time basis as a singer and drummer, and is writing the story of his life. And what a story it is! With a working title, It Has Been a Hell of a Ride and It Ain’t Over Yet, Bob covers everything from being adopted at birth and learning the surprising identity of his biological parents … to stories of his former day job … to stories of his experiences meeting people over the years as an actor, singer, and drummer in his off time … to relating fascinating stories of his time spent as a young man at Hugh Hefner’s Playboy Mansion. Bob not only has stories, but a treasure trove of photos.
You’ll be surprised to know that on his day job Bob used to sing to the inmates being transported between jail and the courthouse. Bob recounts, “Music is a connection, even with hardened criminals, and they dug it.” You’ll also enjoy hearing about Bob working with actors in movies, such as Robert DeNiro and Harrison Ford. Of his experience working on the film, Only the Lonely, Bob remembers fondly, “A highlight was getting to know John Candy. What a genuine and loving person he was. And what a treat it was to hear Maureen O’Hara sing all the verses of Danny Boy for me.” And you’ll learn about Bob performing as a singer and drummer and his bands opening for stars such as Wayne Newton and Dick Clark, and Bob working with legends such as Chubby Checker, the Four Tops, the Spinners, and the Shirelles.
You may have seen Bob performing at Buddy Guy’s Legends or heard Bob sharing his stories over the radio during an airing of the program “In a Nutshell” with Al Weissman on WRLR 98.3 FM. Bob has been going strong since he started performing at 4 years old and later as an adult released his album, “The Stay Out Band, Staying Out All Night with Bob Cesario.” Bob comes from an entertainment background as his father Vic Caesar was a singer, musician, writer, producer, and actor. Vic also wrote Nixon’s campaign song, “Nixon’s the One,” and was the first entertainer to open, and be held over, at Caesar’s Palace in 1966 in Las Vegas with Andy Williams. In later years Vic’s own radio program and nightclub hosted legends such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Wes Montgomery, and Cannonball Adderley.
Bob’s autobiography will share many different experiences such as his visits to the Playboy Mansion and working with actors such as Patrick Swayze. At the Mansion, Bob learned the rules of the house, “You must always address your host as ‘Mr. Hefner’ and you must be a gentleman at all times.” Bob recalls the time he beat Tony Curtis at pool and talked about the origin of Tony’s screen name that he took from a Curtis calendar he saw hanging on the wall (unlike what you read in Wikipedia!). Of working with Patrick Swayze on the movie, Next of Kin, Bob remembers sharing a beer and chatting about Patrick’s dislike (hatred, actually) of Francis Ford Coppola.
Bob currently entertains throughout the Chicago area with multiple bands, including his band the Blu WAVs, and says, “Music is like oxygen for me and I love sharing my passion. I cover all genres in multiple bands, including rock and roll, blues, and country, and perform as a solo act, performing the standards of icons such as Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin. Whether I am entertaining folks here in Chicago or traveling to Wisconsin and Indiana or beyond, I am thrilled to now be sharing my passion for music full time with audiences at festivals, in pubs and restaurants, at corporate events, and in your own backyard for the times of your life as your families celebrate weddings, graduations, and 100-year-old birthdays! I just love it all!”
Bob is sharing sneak peeks of his autobiography on his facebook page @bobbycsinger.
