Suspicious Package Shuts Down Des Plaines P.D. For Several Hours
Two members of the police department staff were in proximity to the package during its discovery Friday evening.

DES PLAINES, IL — A suspicious package shut down the Des Plaines Police Department for several hours Friday, and investigators are continuing to look into where the package came from.
According to an announcement at around 5:55 p.m. Friday, authorities immediately implemented safety protocols and evacuated the building after discovering the package at 1420 Miner St. Representatives from multiple local and federal agencies, including the FBI, were mobilized to address the situation and ensure the safety of the community and law enforcement personnel.
Operations were moved to City Hall, a move which authorities called a "seamless transition." As a precautionary measure, two members of the police department staff who were in proximity to the package during its discovery were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening symptoms for evaluation.

At around 7:52 p.m., authorities announced operations had been moved back to the police department.
Police said an investigation into the nature and origin of the suspicious package is ongoing. Officials are encouraging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or packages they may encounter.
