Troop 37 invites kids to fun outdoor event - moved to Sept. 13

Kids ages 10 and up! Get outdoors and have some fun with the Scouts of Troop 37 at this free event.

The Troop 37 Boy Scouts are hosting their annual free, fun outdoor event for youth in 4th and 5th grades or in Junior High.

Due to inclement weather, Troop 37 has moved their event to Sunday, Sept. 13 from 11:30am to 3:30pm. This is a drop-in event so families are encouraged to participate as their schedule allows.


This year's theme is the "Lost" TV show. The Scouts will help participants 'rescue' survivors as well as learn fun outdoor skills. Light lunch will be provided. Masks are required due to council rules.

Participants do not need to be in Cub Scouts to attend but for youth who are members of Webelos in Cub Scouts packs they will be able to earn Adventure requirements.

The event will be at Des Plaines Izaak Walton League, 1841 S. River Road, Des Plaines. Parking is available in the circle drive near the ranger house.

Troop 37 has a 75+ year history and is sponsored by the St. Peter's Lutheran Laymen's League in Arlington Heights. The troop is open to youth interested in Scouting. In recent years Troop 37 has earned numerous honors including:

- District Troop of the Year

- Most Eagle Scouts in District

- Arlington Heights Hearts of Gold

- Camp Napowan Honor Troop

Troop 37's mission is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law. Members of Troop 37 range from ages 11 to 17 and come from several communities including Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Palatine, Buffalo Grove, Wheeling, Roselle, Barrington and more.

The troop has a wide variety of activities and outings every month of the year to engage many different interests, including:

- art and movie-making contests

- backyard 'camping' adventure with ghost stories by Zoom

- caving, rock climbing and backpack hiking

- charter boat fishing on Lake Michigan, canoeing and river fishing

- bicycling and snow skiing

- and, camping at Camp Napowan, Rock Cut State Park and more
