Village Encourages Recycling Old Or Unusable Holiday Lights

When going through your holiday decorations, many times you discover that strings of lights are not working and in the garbage they go. Instead of tossing away lights that are not usable, please consider recycling any non-working strings of holiday lights or extension cords from November 30 through February 26, by dropping them off at the Health & Human Services Department at Village Hall or at the Public Works Center, 222 N. Ridge Ave.

Last year, with 51 municipalities participating in the Elgin Recycling program, over 100,000 pounds of holiday lights were recycled instead of thrown away.

Lights that will be accepted for this program are: mini-lights (or Italian lights), C7 lights, C9 lights, rope lights, LED lights, extension cords, etc. All colors and lengths will be accepted. Garland, live greens, wreaths or other non-recyclables are not accepted in this program.
