“While we sometimes don’t focus enough on homelessness here in the Northwest Suburbs, there are always many families who are in need,” Walker said. “Northwest Compass provides critical services for those experiencing housing insecurity and homelessness and are especially in need of resources as we approach the colder weather.”

“Northwest Compass is an important resource for many in our area,” Gillespie said. “While we’ve passed a number of bills in the General Assembly addressing anti-homelessness resources and affordable housing, there is more we can and should do at the community level to help those most in need.”

Items requested by Northwest Compass include hats, scarfs, gloves, thick socks, sanitizing wipes, shaving razors, bandages, antibacterial ointments, and laundry detergent pods.

The donation drive will through the month of November, with the final collection day on Tuesday, Nov. 30. Donations can be dropped off in the lobby of Rep. Walker and Sen. Gillespie’s office building located at 171 W. Wing St. in Arlington Heights. Additionally, donations can be dropped off at the Mount Prospect Public Library, a community partner for this event, located at 10 S. Emerson St. in Mount Prospect.

“We want to thank our generous community for supporting Northwest Compass’ efforts to make a difference in the lives of many facing food and housing insecurity and homelessness,” said Sonia Ivanov, Executive Director of Northwest Compass. “Your kindness and generosity is always greatly appreciated! We simply cannot do the work we do without your support!”
