Wallet Thefts Reported At Retail Stores: Arlington Heights PD Blotter

Shoppers at Trader Joe's, Jewel-Osco and Starbucks were all victims of theft while shopping, according to police.

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, IL — The following information comes from the Arlington Heights Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court.

Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

ARRESTS

DRIVING ON A SUSPENDED/REVOKED LICENSE

Vicente Bustos, 25, is accused of driving on a suspended license, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended registration, and was arrested at 9:04 p.m. Dec. 26, at Mavis Tires and Brakes, 840 W. Algonquin Road. Bond was set at $2,500 and a court date of Jan. 10, 2023, was assigned.

  • Janese A. Clark, 20, is accused of aggravated driving under the influence, driving under the influence of alcohol, operating a motor vehicle with no valid driver's license, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 7:58 p.m. Dec. 27, at Rand Road and Beverly Lane. Bond was set at $10,000 and a court date of Jan. 17, 2023, was assigned.
  • Jose Covarrubias, 32, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol, unlawful possession of medical cannabis by a driver, illegal transportation of alcohol by a driver, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 9:21 p.m. Dec. 22, in the 1900 block of S. Arlington Heights Road. Bond was set at $3,000 and a court date of Jan. 11, 2023, was assigned.

VIOLATION OF BAIL BOND

  • Noah A. Jamison, 19, had a warrant for violation of bail bond, and was arrested at 12:40 p.m. Dec. 29, in the 300 block of E. Golf Road.
  • Carolyn H. Wood, 53, had a warrant for violation of bail bond, and was arrested at 8:19 p.m. Dec. 28, in the 300 block of E. Seegers Road. Bond was set at $3,000.

VIOLATION OF AN ORDER OF PROTECTION

Oleh Kopchak, 41, is accused of violation of an order of protection, and was arrested at 6:31 a.m. Dec. 28, in the 1600 block of Partridge Court. Bond was set at $10,000 and a court date of Jan. 18, 2023, was assigned.

POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

John Weber, 33, is accused of two counts of possession of a controlled substance, driving under the combined influence of alcohol and other drugs, possession of drug equipment, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and was arrested at 11:29 p.m. Dec. 29. There was no bond and a court date of Feb. 10, 2023, was assigned.

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

  • An employee of Cassidy Tire and Service, 712 E. Northwest Highway, reported that during the overnight hours of Dec. 13, someone attempted to lift the secured overhead garage door, damaging the garage door railing and roller. The cost to make repairs is unknown.
  • A citizen reported that between Dec. 15 and Dec. 19 someone shattered the window directly above a door which allows access to a storage unit in the 50 block of S. Vail Avenue. There was also damage to the door frame and the security plate was pried out. The cost to repair the damage is unknown.

THEFT

  • A customer of Trader Joe's, 17 W. Rand Road, called police to report that between 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. Dec. 13, someone stole her wallet out of her purse while she was shopping. Inside the victim’s wallet was her driver’s license, two credit cards and approximately $150 in cash.
  • A customer at Jewel, 1860 S. Arlington Heights Road, reported that between 3:48 p.m. and 4:24 p.m. Dec. 19, someone stole her wallet out of her purse while she was shopping, and subsequently used her credit cards to make unauthorized purchases with the victim’s credit card.
  • A customer at Starbucks, 115 W. Rand Road, reported that between 2:21 p.m. and 2:50 p.m. Dec. 21, someone stole her wallet out of her purse while it was hanging on the back of her chair and subsequently made unauthorized purchases with the victim’s credit card.
  • An employee of AT&T, 585 E. Palatine Road, called police to report that at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 24, someone stole two iPhone 13, each valued at $729.99. The subject is described as a male in his 20s with long dreadlocks, wearing a multi-colored sports jacket. The subject left in a red sedan.

RETAIL THEFT

  • An employee of Walgreens, 3 E. Golf Road, reported at 5:21 p.m. Dec. 13, two subjects each took one pair of Muze by Vivitar Bluetooth headphones, valued at $50, and one pair of Altec Lansing Nanophones, valued at $15, and left without paying. The first subject is described as a male, wearing a blue jacket with green sleeves, black pants and black shoes. The second subject is described as a male, wearing a gray sweatshirt, black jacket, blue jeans and red shoes.
  • An employee of Kohl's, 800 W. Dundee Road, called police at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 4, to report three subjects stole $677 worth of makeup. The first subject is described as a short male, wearing a blue jacket, blue hooded sweatshirt, black pants with a tan belt, black shoes and a black surgical mask. The second subject is described as male, with short black hair, wearing a black jacket, dark-colored pants, camo crocs and a black surgical mask.
  • An employee at Mariano's, 802 E. Northwest Highway, reported that at 9:19 p.m. Dec. 18, someone stole an unknown amount of money. The subject is described as black, male, approximately 6-foot, between 30-40 years old, medium length dreadlocks, wearing a black baseball hat, blue jeans, a white jacket with yellow stripes on the sleeves and black shoes.
  • An employee at Ulta, 13 W. Rand Road, called police at 1:05 p.m. Dec. 21, to report two people stole approximately $1,000 worth of product. They left in a white four door vehicle, possibly an early 2000 BMW. The subjects are described as females in their 20s. Both wore blue jeans, one had a red wig and the other was wearing a puffy jacket.

BURGLARY TO MOTOR VEHICLE

A member at Planet Fitness, 50 W. Rand Road, reported that he locked his belongings in a locker between 3:10 p.m. and 3:40 p.m. Dec. 15. When he returned, he noticed the lock was gone and his belongings had been rummaged through. The victim then determined the suspect entered his vehicle and stole his wallet.

RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

A resident in the 2500 block of N. Waterman Avenue called police at 7 p.m. Dec. 16, to report two people pried open a rear window and entered the residence. Personal property was taken from the residence.
