1 Dead, Another Injured In Aurora Shooting

Two men were shot while sitting in a car in a Near West Side coin laundry parking lot Wednesday night.

AURORA, IL — A 25-year-old Aurora man is dead and a 32-year-old man with addresses in both Naperville and Chicago is wounded after a suspect opened fire in the parking lot of a Near West Side coin laundry Wednesday night. Police said Neal M. Brooks, of the 400 block of North River Street, was pronounced dead at the scene at around 7:18 p.m. after the gunman walked up to a vehicle in the 800 block of West Illinois Avenue and fired multiple times.

Both Brooks and the 32-year-old victim were shot more than once, Aurora police said. The 32-year-old was taken to an Aurora hospital by Aurora paramedics with non-life-threatening wounds.

Police said a definite motive has not been established but the crime does not appear to be random.

The suspect is described as a 150-pound, 5-foot-7 black man wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt.

An autopsy on Brooks was scheduled for Thursday.
