145 Coronavirus Deaths At Long-Term-Care Centers In Kane County

Data shows residents at Kane County long-term-care facilities represent about 12 percent of all coronavirus cases but 57 percent of deaths.

KANE COUNTY, IL — Residents at more than a dozen long-term-care facilities in Kane County have died after testing positive for the coronavirus, according to public health data. Nineteen facilities have reported a total of 145 deaths — more than 57 percent of all coronavirus-related deaths in Kane County — despite residents of long-term-care facilities accounting for less than 12 percent of all cases, as of Monday, the data shows.

Residents at facilities in Aurora and Elgin represent more than a third of all coronavirus-related deaths in Kane County, with 49 recorded in Aurora and 40 in Elgin, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Since the start of the coronavirus outbreak in March, Bria of Geneva has been among the worst-hit assisted-living facilities in the state. As of Friday, 124 residents and employees tested positive for the coronavirus and 29 had died, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Bria of Geneva is the site of the deadliest outbreak in Kane County, but Tower Hill Healthcare Center in Elgin has seen more residents and staff members test positive for the virus, with 169 confirmed cases. Twenty-two deaths at Tower Hill have been linked to been linked to the coronavirus, the data shows.

Aurora Farmers Market To Reopen Saturday For 108th Season

Two dozen coronavirus-related deaths have been recorded among residents at Symphony of Orchard Valley in Aurora, where 115 cases have been confirmed, according to the data. Eighteen residents at Asbury Gardens in North Aurora have died after testing positive, as well as 13 residents of Elgin’s Fox River Rehab and Healthcare.

Residents of the following long-term-care facilities in Kane County have also died after testing positive for the virus, according to the state’s data: Alden of Waterford (9); Bickford of Aurora (7); Elmwood Terrace (5); Arden Courts of Geneva, Batavia Rehabilitation Center, Bright Oaks of Aurora, Citadel of Elgin, Presence Fox Knoll, the Grove of St. Charles, and Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Center (2 each); and Avondale Estates of Elgin, Brighton Garden of St. Charles, White Oaks at Heritage Woods and White Oaks at Spring Street (1 each).
