2 Hospitalized For Smoke Inhalation After Apartment Fire: FD

A total of 30 firefighters were called to the fire that broke out in a third-floor apartment in the 300 block of Old Indian Trail.

AURORA, IL — Two people were hospitalized in good condition after inhaling smoke from a fire that broke out at their apartment early Monday, officials said.

Firefighters were dispatched around 12:30 a.m. to a building in the 300 block of Old Indian Trail after receiving multiple calls about a fire that started in one of the 48 units.

Upon arrival, crews found smoke showing from a third-floor apartment. A total of 30 firefighters were called to the unit, where the fire was extinguished within 15 minutes, officials said.

Crews remained on the scene for two hours to check for and extinguish hot spots.

The apartment was deemed uninhabitable, displaying a 26-year-old man and a 2-year-old boy. The owner arrived to help the two residents.

Some of the other units on the third floor sustained minor smoke damage, but many residents were able to return to their units after safely evacuating, officials said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
